After nine years, three EPs, and a string of gigs with the likes of the Rollins Band, Machine Head, Suicidal Tendencies, Disturbed, Bullet For My Valentine, Paradise Lost, W.A.S.P & Staind. Dublin progressive metal band Eyesclosed entered Sweden’s Fascination Street Studios with famed producer Jens Bogren (Opeth, Katatonia, Amon Amarth, Paradise Lost) in January 2009 to record their debut album, The Dissident. According to singer/lyricist Hytham Martin, the album describes a character who “considering the apathy and ignorance prevalent within his society, realises that the only plausible way for that society to change is to start a movement for progress amongst his people in an attempt to counteract the policies of a government moving irrecoverably towards war.” With recording completed and artwork created by Rain Song Design’s Colin Marks (Nevermore, Strapping Young Lad), the band have created a new standard for the progressive metal scene.
